This collaborative program, between Artpace and Gemini Ink, pairs a visual artist and a writer in an evening of words and images, gathering literary and visual arts audiences for a critical discussion and examination of crossovers between the genres. 2 to Watch features emerging talents, those new to the community, or established artists with new bodies of work.
Resident artists and the guest curator join in conversation about the artwork completed while at Artpace. These lively dialogues bring closure to the residency for both artists and audience-offering curatorial insights as well as the opportunity to engage directly with the exhibiting artists.
These free workshops are designed to address relevant issues for practicing artists. Sessions may include strategies for strengthening marketability, learning about exhibition and funding opportunities, and protecting and guiding an art career.

Each year Artpace celebrates the holiday season by giving over its Main Avenue windows to a group of young people at a local school or community center. The students are guided through the creative process by a mentor artist and are given an opening reception in early December.
In this popular film series, invited artists select and introduce a themed season of three films. These informal screenings appeal to a diverse community audience, provide access to unusual films, and offer insight into what inspires San Antonio artists.
Every summer Texas artists are invited to submit material to be considered for a shortlist that will be reviewed by upcoming guest curators selecting resident artists. Short-listed artists’ material will be examined by three guest curators, who may also conduct studio visits. From this process each curator identifies an innovative Texas artist to become an International Artist-in-Residence.
Arranged at the beginning of each International Artist-in-Residence cycle, Potluck Dinners offer the chance to introduce new residents to the community-Texas style. The artists discuss their previous work and their upcoming Artpace project in an informal setting. Guests are asked to bring any dish that serves 12.
Projectos del Momento capitalize upon the unknowns of the residencies by taking the form of programs that respond to what is on view. Artpace collaborates with students, organizations, and resident artists to create projects that further the impact of what is being shown at the moment.
Awarded to area artists each spring, this grant fosters the growth and vision of an artist's career and encourages dialogue between local and international art communities.
